Voice Guard
![]() |
We are happy to announce that the lite version of MobSensor called VoiceGuard is available from Nokia Store. VoiceGuard is a security and entertainment noise detector application. When the application runs, the mobile phone detects its environment and in case of any noise, it can alert loudly and/or send SMS message. The type of alerts and the sensibility can be defined in the settings. Voice Guard can be used for protecting the phone, its environment and it is also good for baby guard and even for games, e.g.: who can go through the room silently. MobSensor
If you are interested to MobSensor (that is a research project), please contact peter.eklerATaut.bme.hu.
The main idea of creating the MobSensor application was that the mobile device is basically a small computer with:
- Sound playing and recording ability
- Camera with video and image handling ability
- High powered network handling capabilities
- Large enough CPU for complex tasks
It is important to create applications which are easy to use for common users. Unique applications can increase the value of the mobile device.
The application is able to sense its environment. It listens to the changes in the environment via a motion and noise detector.
The motion detector uses the camera of the phone and detects differences in the environment. If the difference number from the comparison algorithm is bigger than a specific number, it alerts. The noise detector works the same; it uses the microphone of the mobile device and detects noise differences. In both cases users are able to set the sensibility of the sensors to fit more to the current environment.
The MobSensor has also network abilities. It means that the users are able to setup a network from mobile devices via ad-hoc WLAN networks or with a WLAN router, for example this way we can establish a fast sensor network in our house. If one device alerts, the whole network gets the alert. We can set on the devices that in which room is it, this way we will know from where the alert came from.
There is one boss device in the network, which can temporary disable the sensors, this way we can walk with this device in the network without any alerts.
Furthermore the application can automatically upload images to a website if it detects alerts (e. g. to the police website).
Example use cases:
- Burglar detector
- Baby alert
- Security application
- Prevent the phone from stealing
Future plans are to improve web support to the application. Additional future plan is that we can see the devices in our home on a website and we can ask images from them, to check our home.
On the Mobile Rules 2008 competition the MobSensor was elected as a runner-up winner in the Multimedia category.
